Satoshi to Bitcoin
What is a Satoshi?
Each bitcoin (BTC) is divisible to the 8th decimal place, so each BTC can be split into 100,000,000 units. Each unit of bitcoin, or 0.00000001 bitcoin, is called a satoshi. A Satoshi is the smallest unit of Bitcoin.
How many Satoshis are in a Bitcoin?
There are 100,000,000 satoshi in a BTC.
What is this site?
Satoshi to Bitcoin is a Bitcoin converter/calculator. Right now, we offer two converters: Satoshi to BTC and BTC to Satoshi.
Convert BTC, mBTC, Bits, Satoshis, USD, EUR, and More
This is the best Bitcoin converter for any Bitcoin conversion, like BTC to USD. Bitcoin units include BTC, mBTC, bits, and Satoshis. Fiat currencies include USD (US Dollars), CAD (Canadian Dollars), EUR (Euro), GBP (Great Britain Pounds), and AUD (Australian Dollars). Available altcoins are BCH (Bitcoin Cash), LTC (Litecoin), and ETH (Ethereum).

Please let me know if you want me to add a feature or if you have any ideas for how I can improve this Bitcoin converter.
The Bitcoin Converter Began with BTC and mBTC
I noticed that several people found my original Bitcoin Converter when searching for a way to convert from mBTC to BTC and BTC to USD. While this is an extremely simple Bitcoin conversion, I figured I’d create this BTC converter just in case someone really wanted it. So, here it is, my BTC and mBTC (and now, bits and Satoshis and USD and EUR and GBP) converter. We use the CryptoCompare Price Index for every USD, CAD, EUR, and GBP conversion. Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions for improving the Bitcoin converter.
New Bitcoin Unit: Bits
We recently added support for any Bitcoin conversion to or from bits! Bits are one millionth of one Bitcoin or one thousandth of one mBTC. A bit is the same thing as a μBTC or a microbitcoin. Enjoy!
New Currency (9/2/14): USD
You can now convert to and from US dollars with the BTC converter (in addition to Bitcoin, mBTC, and bits). This is perfect for the conversion that everyone needs: BTC to USD. The exchange rate is from CryptoCompare. This Bitcoin converter just keeps getting better!
New Bitcoin Unit (10/1/14): Satoshi
We’ve added the Satoshi to the Bitcoin calculator. The Satoshi is currently the smallest unit of Bitcoin available. There are 100 million of them in one full Bitcoin. All other units (mBTC, bits, USD) are still available, so there are tons of Bitcoin conversion pairs to choose from. Satoshi to BTC? We’ve got that. Want to convert from the Satoshi to USD? You can! This Bitcoin converter is now extremely versatile.
New Currency (3/4/15): EUR
We recently added support for the Euro! Now you can use this calculator to do Bitcoin conversions like BTC to EUR and EUR to BTC. You could even convert something like EUR to USD and see what the rate looks like using Bitcoin as the base currency.
New Altcoins (2/7/16): ETH and LTC
The Bitcoin converter is now an altcoin converter as well! We’ve added support for some of the most popular alternative cryptocurrencies, Ethereum and Litecoin. You can find them by checking the box that says “Show Altcoins” and start converting instantly. If you want to convert from ETH to BTC, we’ve got your back. Or if you need a calculator for Ethereum to Bitcoin, we can do that too. Let us know what altcoin we should add next!
New Altcoin (8/7/2017): Bitcoin Cash
Now that Bitcoin officially forked, I added Bitcoin Cash (also known as Bcash, BCH, and BCC) to the list. For now, I’ll be a primary currency (meaning you don’t have to check the “Show Altcoins” box to see it). But if BCH crashes over time as many expect, I’ll move it into the altcoins area to reduce clutter.
So go ahead! Try out a BCH to BTC conversion and see how much extra value you may have lying around in your old Bitcoin wallets.
Most commonly, units of bitcoin are expressed in decimal exponents such as BTC ("bitcoins"), mBTC ("millibitcoins") and μBTC ("bits").
Decimal metric units
The BTC unit was chosen to represent a value of 10 8 so as to give sub-unit precision rather than large whole numbers. Mirroring the standard Le Système International d'Unités, this allows for divisions of 1/10th (deci-bitcoins, dBTC), 1/100th (centi-bitcoins, cBTC), 1/1 000th (milli-bitcoins, mBTC), and 1/1 000 000 (micro-bitcoins, μBTC).
Many have adopted the practice of referring to the micro-bitcoin metric sub-unit as "bits".
Table of all units
This table is intended to include all well-defined units of bitcoin value, including less common and niche units.
Bitcoin Mining
What is Bitcoin Mining?
Bitcoin Mining is a peer-to-peer computer process used to secure and verify bitcoin transactions—payments from one user to another on a decentralized network. Mining involves adding bitcoin transaction data to Bitcoin's global public ledger of past transactions. Each group of transactions is called a block. Blocks are secured by Bitcoin miners and build on top of each other forming a chain. This ledger of past transactions is called the blockchain. The blockchain serves to confirm transactions to the rest of the network as having taken place. Bitcoin nodes use the blockchain to distinguish legitimate Bitcoin transactions from attempts to re-spend coins that have already been spent elsewhere.
What is Proof-of-Work?
Bitcoin Mining is intentionally designed to be resource-intensive and difficult so that the number of blocks found each day by miners remains steady over time, producing a controlled finite monetary supply. Individual blocks must contain a proof-of-work to be considered valid. This proof-of-work (PoW) is verified by other Bitcoin nodes each time they receive a block. Bitcoin uses a PoW function to protect against double-spending, which also makes Bitcoin's ledger immutable.
How Does Mining Create New Bitcoins?
The primary purpose of mining is to allow Bitcoin nodes to reach a secure, tamper-resistant consensus. Mining is also the mechanism used to introduce bitcoins into the system. Miners are paid transaction fees as well as a subsidy of newly created coins, called block rewards. This both serves the purpose of disseminating new coins in a decentralized manner as well as motivating people to provide security for the system through mining.
What Are Bitcoin Mining Pools?
During the last several years an incredible amount of Bitcoin mining power (hashrate) has come online making it harder for individuals to have enough hashrate to single-handedly solve a block and earn the payout reward. To compensate for this pool mining was introduced. Pooled mining is a mining approach where groups of individual miners contribute to the generation of a block, and then split the block reward according the contributed processing power.
