Bitcoin Gold Debuts at #5 on CoinMarketCap

Amid various scams and scandals, Bitcoin Gold has finally been listed on CoinMarketCap. It is already ahead of major altcoins such as Dash, Litecoin, and Monero and has risen hundreds of dollars in price since its initial listings and is currently sitting at around $360.

The Second Continuing Fork of the BTC Network

Bitcoin Gold forked off the main network earlier this month, with the weeks leading up to the fork being rife with confusion. No one knew anything about this coin, it had no viable replay protection, very little support from the industry, and a developer pre-mine that nobody was comfortable with. But despite the rocky start, the coin is finally gaining traction within the crypto community.

Likely one of the primary reasons behind Bitcoin Gold’s price surge over the past 48 hours is the announcement that cryptocurrency exchanges Bithumb and Bitfinex have both added BTG trading pairs to their crypto offerings. Specifically, Bitfinex has added BTG/BTC and BTG/USD, while Bithumb has added BTG/KRW. Bitcoin Gold has already been trading on major exchanges like Bittrex, HitBTC, and Binance.

Bitcoin Gold is a fork of the main Bitcoin blockchain that happened at the end of October. BTG forked after the activation of Segwit, so it is also active on the forked chain. The key difference between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Gold is the change in the hash algorithm used to mine Bitcoin. This renders Bitcoin ASICs, the specialized machines specifically made to mine the digital currency, obsolete on the new network. The new hash algorithm gives miners the ability to mine using consumer grade graphics cards. Some say ASIC mining centralization is a big problem in Bitcoin, and they’re looking to change it with Bitcoin Gold.

Recent News About the Currency

Bitcoin Gold has made in headlines in recent days due in part to two hacking incidents affecting the Bitcoin Gold community. The first incident was the MyBTGWallet scam, a web-based wallet previously listed on the Bitcoin Gold website. Malicious tampering with the wallet’s source code resulted in millions of dollars’ worth of cryptocurrency being stolen. Earlier today, the BTG team released a statement that a “suspicious file of unknown origin” had been detected on both their website and Github repository. Although the file did not trigger antivirus or anti-malware software, BTG decided to err on the side of caution, deleting the file and warning the community.

At What Price Will Bitcoin’s Market Cap Equal Gold & Reserve Currencies?

How can we determine at what price point will Bitcoin match the total money supply value of global reserve currencies and the market cap of precious metals such as gold?

Bitcoin: Market Cap or Money Supply?

First off, a disclaimer. Definition of market cap:

Market capitalization is the market value of a company’s outstanding shares. This figure is found by taking the stock price and multiplying it by the total number of shares outstanding. — Investopedia

Bitcoin is not a company. There are no shares in Bitcoin. It does not have a stock price. It does not have a market cap.

Bitcoin is money. It makes as much sense to talk about the market cap of Bitcoin as it does to refer to the market cap of the dollar. The dollar and Bitcoin have Money Supplies (MS). It is best to analyze their markets using classical comparative-static Monetary Economics. The Supply of Bitcoin is perfectly inelastic (vertical Supply curve). Supply increases by 12.5 Bitcoin (curve shifts right) every 10 minutes. The Demand for Bitcoin is a Demand for Money.

Having got that out of the way, the terms Money Supply and Market Cap will be used interchangeably. All data is from the author’s website, Blocklink.info. Live prices feed into Google Sheets from Google Finance. Where Google Finance prices are unavailable, prices are taken from Bloomberg.

For Bitcoin to reach the same market cap as Gold, the required price is $500,000. (That is half a million dollars for Europeans confused by the comma sign.)

For Bitcoin to reach the same market cap as Silver, the required price is $2,588.

The Bitcoin Price is close to matching that of an ounce of Gold but, of course, the supply of Gold (measured in USD) is much greater. This is an old but a good tidbit on this subject:

Bitcoin vs. All Global Currencies

How do you measure the market cap of a currency? For a fiat money like the dollar, the narrow M1 Money Supply is the total stock of liquid spending power in the economy: cash (banknotes & coins) held by consumers and firms plus money in checking accounts in banks. (What Europeans call current accounts.) It excludes less liquid, broad money, notably money held in time-deposits (savings accounts).

I sourced data for Global Money Supplies measured in Local Currency from Trading Economics. Then Live FX rates are used to adjust those Money Supplies to their equivalent USD values.

Why is the MS of Bitcoin climbing the table of Global Money Supplies? The MS of Bitcoin measured in USD is determined by the increased availability of Bitcoins due to mining and by changes in the BTC/USD change rate. The latter factor is the dominant one as the physical supply of Bitcoins increases very slowly – currently 4% p.a. and decelerating. N.b. this is not monetary deflation, it is declining monetary inflation.

USD M1 changes over time. Usually, it grows — much more quickly than the supply of Bitcoin (measured in BTC) — and, very rarely, decreases.

The MS for Bitcoin presently is 16.183 million (coins). It will rise to a maximum of 21 million. That is a total growth, spread over many years, of a touch less than 30%. To place that in perspective, the supply of Dollars often grows 15–20% annually.

We nevertheless expect the MS of Bitcoin measured in USD to continue to climb the table as a result of the relentless increase in the BTC/USD FX rate. You know the story, the best-performing currency in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015. 2016 (and YTD 2017):

Bitcoin vs. Reserve Currencies

A Reserve Currency is a one that is held in significant quantities by governments and institutions as part of their foreign exchange reserves. Reserve currencies are commonly used in international transactions as trading partners are unwilling to accept your Mexican Peso or Egyptian Pound. Reserve Currencies are normally considered to be hard or safe-haven currencies. (Although the recent weak performance of GBP does not support that.)

The Reserve Currency with the smallest MS is the Canadian Loonie. Bitcoin needs to reach a price of $3,904 to match the Money Supply of CAD. That could happen in the next one or two years. This is important – status as a Reserve Currency creates a significant additional demand for that currency independent of other sources of demand, such as for payment and for investment. So if the Pound Sterling was not a Reserve Currency, for example, its international buying power would be much weaker.

The MS Table & The War on Cash

Finally, it is evident from the MS table that something very interesting is happening in Switzerland. They love cash. These economies have the world’s largest Narrow Money Supplies.

So, the Swiss Government enables its citizens to hold cash. Add to that the facts that Switzerland is the wealthiest nation in the world per capita, and that they have one of the highest rates of gun ownership in the world (and they sell Bitcoins at every Railway Station) — I wonder why everyone else does not just copy and paste what Switzerland does. It would not surprise me if they start to buy Bitcoin for their reserves.

In fact, Civic CEO, Vinny Lingham, made this exact prediction last year, saying:

My prediction here is that by 2017, governments will become the largest buyers of Bitcoin, pushing the price up to new highs.

In the search for Anaïs Nin, one of the first few links shows a picture of a man. Why? Since Nin is a woman, I can’t figure out why. Can you show some reason for this? Who is he? If you click on the picture a group of pictures of Nin and no mention of that man. Is it an error?

I went to the Yahoo Troubleshooting page but the article that said to do a certain 8 steps to fix the problem with Yahoo Services not working and how to fix the problem. Of course they didn't work.

I contacted Samsung thru their Samsung Tutor app on my phone. I gave their Technican access to my phone to see if there was a problem with my phone that stopped the Yahoo Search App from working. He went to Yahoo and I signed in so he could try to fix the Yahoo Search App not working. He also used another phone, installed the app from the Google Play Store to see if the app would do any kind of search thru the app. The Yahoo Search App just wasn't working.

I also had At&t try to help me because I have UVERSE for my internet service. My internet was working perfectly. Their Technical Support team member checked the Yahoo Search App and it wouldn't work for him either.

We can go to www.yahoo.com and search for any topic or website. It's just the Yahoo Search App that won't allow anyone to do web searches at all.

I let Google know that the Yahoo Search App installed from their Google Play Store had completely stopped working on May 18, 2018.

I told them that Yahoo has made sure that their Yahoo members can't contact them about anything.

I noticed that right after I accepted the agreement that said Oath had joined with Verizon I started having the problem with the Yahoo Search App.
No matter what I search for or website thru the Yahoo Search App it says the following after I searched for

I tried to search for things like www.homedepot.com. The same thing happened. It would say WEBPAGE NOT AVAILABLE. The only thing that changed were all the upper and lower case letters, numbers and symbols.

This is the same thing that happened when Samsung and At&t tried to do any kind of searches thru the Yahoo Search App.

Bitcoin Gold Launches on November 12

After weeks of preparation, Bitcoin Gold (Bgold; BTG) is finally launching tomorrow, November 12, 2017.

Bitcoin Gold is the second project to fork away from the Bitcoin blockchain to create a new coin this year; on August 1, Bitcoin Cash (Bcash) was the first. Where Bcash attempted to offer an on-chain scaling solution by increasing Bitcoin’s block size limit (while removing the Segregated Witness code), Bgold is an attempt to counter Bitcoin’s mining centralization.

The most important difference between Bitcoin and Bitcoin Gold is a new proof-of-work mining algorithm. Instead of SHA256, the new coin uses the memory-hard Equihash proof-of-work function that’s also used in the privacy-focused altcoin Zcash . This means that specialized ASIC hardware that has come to dominate Bitcoin’s mining ecosystem will not be able to mine Bgold.

Although Bgold is launching this weekend, the fork “officially” occurred on October 25. Anyone who held bitcoin (BTC) on that day (specifically, when Bitcoin block 491406 was mined) will have an equivalent amount of BTG attributed to their private keys. These private keys can be imported into a dedicated Bgold wallet, which, starting tomorrow, will allow users to spend the coins. (But note that this does not come without risks and tradeoffs: If you’re not sure what you’re doing, it’s best not to ignore BTG until you do. For more information als see this article . Update, November 12th: There are now confirmed cases of malware disguised as Bgold wallets. Be extreme careful not to import your Bitcoin private keys into any software you don't fully trust!)

Block 491407 on the Bgold blockchain will be the first block to deviate from the Bitcoin protocol. In other words, this will be the first block where Bgold splits off to become its own currency. However, somewhat controversially, the first 8000 blocks will be privately mined by the Bgold team. Only after these 8000 blocks will Bgold’s mining difficulty ramp up to normal levels, and will anyone be allowed to mine the coin. The resulting 100,000 BTG worth of block rewards from the first 8000 blocks will fund project development and more. (For more details, see the Bitcoin Gold roadmap .)

Other changes implemented by Bitcoin Gold are mostly to ensure a smooth split away from Bitcoin. This includes a new difficulty re-adjustment algorithm named “DigiShield” that adjusts the mining difficulty each time a block is found — instead of once every two weeks. Bgold also includes strong replay protection, ensuring that no users spend BTC when they mean to spend BTG, and vice versa. Additionally, BGold implemented a new address scheme, preventing users from spending BTC to BTG addresses and vice versa.

Bitcoin Gold will be supported by a relatively large number of exchanges, including major players like Bitfinex, OKex and HitBTC. Several of these exchanges are effectively supporting BTC/BTG trading already through futures markets. Ignoring an initially inflated price, these futures have traded at around 0.02 BTC in recent weeks, with a notable surge to about 0.042 BTC at the time of writing this article. If this holds up, 1 BTG would be worth almost $250, and Bgold would immediately become a top-5 altcoin on websites like coinmarketcap.com .

We can go to www.yahoo.com and search for any topic or website. It's just the Yahoo Search App that won't allow anyone to do web searches at all.

Pfeffer Capital Investor: Bitcoin to Replace Gold While Market Cap Could Be Worth $6 Trillion

A major institutional investor has made the claim that the entire bitcoin network could one day be worth over $6 trillion.

Speaking at a Sohn investment conference in New York, John Pfeffer, a partner at U.K.-based Pfeffer Capital, said that the cryptocurrency could replace gold. He also made the bullish claim that it could eventually be worth $700,000, reports the Independent.

“Bitcoin is the first viable candidate to replace gold the world has ever seen. So if bitcoin becomes the dominant non-sovereign store of value, it could be the new gold, or new reserve currency.”

In his opinion, most of the other cryptocurrencies on the market are just ‘bad bets.’ This is a notable remark from the investor as it’s the first time the topic of cryptocurrencies has been spoken about at Sohn, an environment where investors can learn about which stocks to put their money in.

It also comes at a time when the market is seeing increasing interest from hedge fund investors who are turning their attention to digital currencies. Earlier this week, it was reported that one in five financial institutions are planning to trade cryptocurrencies over the next 12 months.

Bitcoin is currently valued $8,831, with a market cap worth $150.1 billion. However, Pfeffer believes that the entire bitcoin network has the potential to rise even further, to $6.4 trillion, if it displaced 25 percent of foreign reserves. To illustrate his faith in where the currency is heading, Pfeffer donated 10 bitcoins to the Sohn Foundation, with the stipulation that the coins can’t be cashed in for five years, adding ‘buy the ticket, take the ride.’

Even though he highlighted that there are still risks associated with the market, unlike gold the value linked to them is more than a store of value. Pfeffer isn’t the only one who remains bullish on the currency, and comes hot on the heels of remarks from venture capitalist Tim Draper.

At the beginning of the week, Draper made the argument that the number one cryptocurrency would be bigger than Tesla, Skype, and Hotmail combined after he was questioned to compare bitcoin to his early investments. As a long-time advocate for bitcoin, Draper said during the Intelligence Squared U.S. debate that ‘this is bigger than the internet.’ He added that the digital currency will eventually win the ‘long-term crypto battle.’

Fundstrat’s Tom Lee, who would put ‘fresh money‘ into bitcoin over bitcoin cash, claims that the cryptocurrency will reach $25,000 by the end of the year and $55,000 by 2022.

Yahoo Search App from the Google Play Store on my Samsung Galaxy S8+ phone stopped working on May 18, 2018.

I went to the Yahoo Troubleshooting page but the article that said to do a certain 8 steps to fix the problem with Yahoo Services not working and how to fix the problem. Of course they didn't work.

We can go to www.yahoo.com and search for any topic or website. It's just the Yahoo Search App that won't allow anyone to do web searches at all.

I let Google know that the Yahoo Search App installed from their Google Play Store had completely stopped working on May 18, 2018.

I told them that Yahoo has made sure that their Yahoo members can't contact them about anything.

This is the same thing that happened when Samsung and At&t tried to do any kind of searches thru the Yahoo Search App.

Yahoo needs to fix the problem with their app.
